Atara was inspired to write the Curlee Girlee book series by her young daughter, whose own curly hair made her feel different—not in a good way. Atara wanted her daughter to love her hair exactly as it was and not ever feel second best because she didn’t look like everyone else.
Her Curlee Girlee books have sparked a movement and she was selected as a TODAY Show Style Hero alongside notables like Tyra Books, Pink, Bobbi Brown and Faith Hill to name a few. Atara’s Curlee Girlee book was selected for inclusion in both the Grammy and Everybody Wins OScar gift bag 2x in a row. Atara has been interviewed on CNN, Today, Huffington Post, Parade magazine and countless other publications.
Atara now hosts her own podcast with a fellow curlee girlee and owner of thebabypsot.com, Grace Cross, it is called Curlee Girlee’s Crackin the Kid Code and debuted to a top 20 listing on itunes.
So many wonderful things have stemmed from the Curlee Girlee journey, an adorable moment: Recently, Atara’s eleven-year-old son said, “Mommy, you were a lawyer and then one day you decided to be a writer. Now, everybody is reading your books! You’ve taught me that if I want to do something, I should just do it.”
